Is there any more satisfying or pleasurable a meal than a giant bowl of spaghetti? Children and adults both love this hearty dish. There are so many options to choose from. The different sauces and meats, there are a plethora of combinations just waiting for your taste buds to enjoy. For a quick and easy, homemade spaghetti sauce all that is needed are a few ingredients and a little time.

For a super flavorful tomato based spaghetti sauce:

In a medium to large saucepan combine 1-15 ounce can of tomato sauce, 1-6 ounce can of tomato paste, 1-15 ounce can of diced tomatoes, 1/2 teaspoon each of oregano, basil, pepper and salt, 1 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes and 2 teaspoons of sugar. Stir ingredients and simmer covered for 20 to 30 minutes. Make sure to taste the sauce after cooking to add seasoning to taste. Note: the sugar and red pepper flake measurements can be adjusted to taste as this recipe calls for a spicy, sweet sauce. Prepare a package of your preferred brand of spaghetti noodles, drain and serve smothered in the sauce. Also while preparing the sauce why not double the recipe and freeze the excess for a really quick and easy dinner later?!

 

For a twist on spaghetti that kids (and adults) will love try this spaghetti/deep dish pizza combo:

Prepare 1/2 of a 16 ounce package of spaghetti as the directions suggest, drain and pour back into the pot. Have your oven preheated to 425 degrees F. Add 3 cups of the marinara sauce of your choice and 1/2 cup of shredded or grated mozzarella cheese to the pot. Stir and season the mix with 1/2 teaspoon each of pepper and salt. In a 10 inch oven proof skillet heat a teaspoon of olive oil using medium to low heat. Lightly press the spaghetti mixture down into the pan. Pour 1 cup of marinara sauce over the top, then sprinkle 1/2 to 3/4 cup of mozzarella cheese and top with 2 ounces of pepperoni slices. Place the pan in the oven and let it bake for 18 to 20 minutes. Paired with a lightly dressed, mixed greens salad and garlic bread promises to please even the pickiest eater.

 

For a more grown up taste (kids will love it too) that will for sure fix a spaghetti night rut, this recipe for a simple bacon spaghetti will wow your family or guests.

All that is required is 1 pound each of spaghetti and sliced bacon, 5 tablespoons of olive oil, 3 minced cloves of garlic, 2 tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese, salt and black pepper. In a frying pan cook the bacon until nice and crispy, then crumble it up. Cook the spaghetti according to package directions and drain. Combine the garlic with the olive oil and toss with the spaghetti. Stir in the bacon crumbles. Salt and pepper to taste then top with the cheese. Add a green salad and a glass of wine for an adult spaghetti night your guests will love.

With the only limit being your imagination the classic spaghetti dinner can be transformed into a gourmet treat!
