Make this Famous and Fantastic Mexican Tres Leches Cake

If you are looking to make an authentic and tasty Mexican dessert, this tres leches cake recipe is what you are looking for. It makes an excellent dessert after a great Mexican dinner or on its own anytime of the day. It is based on authentic Mexican cooking and is fun to make.

Ingredients for Tres Leches Cake Recipe:

o 1 1/4 cups of flour
o 1 teaspoon baking powder
o 1 cup white sugar
o 1/3 cup of vegetable oil
o 5 eggs -large
o 1 teaspoon and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
o 1 cup of milk and 1/2 cup of milk
o 1 cup of sweetened and condensed milk
o 1 cup heavy cream and 3/4 cup of heavy cream
o 1 tablespoon of rum
o 1 pinch of salt
o Fresh berries or cinnamon as optional garnishes

Follow these steps to make this fantastic cake.

Directions for Tres Leches cake recipe:

o Combine the flour, baking powder and salt
o In a separate bowl, combine the sugar, oil and 1 teaspoon of vanilla
o Add eggs to sugar mix one at a time
o Combine well
o Stir in the 1/2 cup of milk
o Gently fold in the flour mix
o Pour the batter into a cake pan
o Bake in the oven at 325 degrees for about 30 or 40 minutes
o Let the cake cool
o Turn it over onto a plate that has raised edges
o Poke the cake with a fork
o Let it cool for about 30 minutes in the refrigerator
o Whisk 1 cup of the milk, 1 cup of the sweetened and condensed milk, 1 cup of the heavy cream and rum
o Slowly pour the mix over top of the cake when cooled
o Refrigerate for one hour
o Occasionally, spoon the milk back over top of the cake
o In a mixing bowl, add 3/4 cup of the heavy cream, 1 teaspoon of the vanilla and 1 tablespoon of the white sugar
o Beat until it forms stiff and white peaks
o Spread the mix over top of the cake
o Sprinkle on top with the cinnamon
o Garnish with fresh berries

There are also a lot of different ideas you can do to vary this tres leches cake recipe. For instance, you can substitute Frangelico, brandy of Chambord instead of the rum to add a rich flavor. You can also try a tropical version by replacing the sweetened condensed milk with a cup of Coco Lopez Cream of Coconut and a ΒΌ cup of rum. Or you can add cherries, blueberries or even apples to this cake. You can try different toppings to make this tasty recipe.
