1/2 cup molasses
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup boiling water
1 pinch salt
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup butter
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 (9-inch) unbaked pie crust

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

In a medium bowl, dissolve the baking soda into the molasses; stir until the mixure foams. Stir in the boiling water and add the salt.

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar and the butter; mix until texture is crumbly.

Pour 1/3 of the molasses mixture into the unbaked pie crust. Sprinkle 1/3 of the brown sugar crumbs on top of molasses. Alternate between molasses and crumb mixture until all is used up. Crumb mixture should be your last layer.

Bake for 30 minutes, or until the crumbs are golden brown.

1 (9-inch) unbaked pie shell
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour/
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup shortening
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 pinch ground ginger
1 pinch ground cinnamon
1 pinch ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup molasses
/4 cup hot water


Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

In a medium bowl, combine the flour and the brown sugar; mix well. Cut in the shortening until the mixture is a crumbly texture.

In a separate bowl, combine the baking soda, nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and the salt; mix well. Stir in the molasses. Pour in the hot water; mix until smooth.

Sprinkle a layer of the crumb mixture into the pie shell. Pour on a layer of the molasses. Alternate between layers of crumb mixture and molasses, ending with the crumb mixture on top.

Bake for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and continue to bake for another 20 minutes.

1 (9-inch) pie shell
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons butter flavored shortening
1 egg, beaten
1 cup unsulfured molasses
3/4 cup cold water
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup boiling water
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips


Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a small bowl, combine the flour and the brown sugar. Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Set aside 1 cup of the crumb mixture.

In a large bowl, combine the egg, molasses, cold water and the remaining crumb mixture; mix well. Dissolve the baking soda in the boiling water and add this to the molasses mixture; mix thoroughly.

Spread the chocolate chips, in an even layer, across the bottom of the pie shell. Pour the molasses filling over the chocolate chips. Sprinkle the reserved crumb mixture on top.

1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons cornmeal
1 tablespoon all purpose flour
1/4 cup butter, softened
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 (9-inch) unbaked pie shell


Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a medium bowl, combine the white sugar, brown sugar, cornmeal and the flour; mix well. Stir in the eggs, vanilla and the vinegar.

Pour mixture into the unbaked pie shell.

Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, until golden brown.
